Natural rubber
Natural rubber or tree-derived rubber is an eco-friendly and sustainable material with natural antibacterial properties. It is made from an entirely natural product – the latex that comes from the Para rubber tree. The latex is a sticky, milky fluid drawn off by making incisions in the bark and collecting the fluid in vessels in a process called “tapping”. The latex then is refined into rubber that is ready for commercial use. The health of the tree is not affected. Rubber has been harvested this way for more than 3.500 years.
The Para rubber tree is an ecologically sustainable crop and actually contributes to the maintenance of the global carbon balance in the atmosphere! Natural rubber products can be recycled various times into other products, like tyres or flooring applications. Natural rubber contains no toxic chemicals or petroleum components and is naturally biodegradable.
Cork
Cork is the outer bark of the Cork Oak which grows in the Mediterranean area. Cork oaks, a protected species that is never cut down, are the only trees in the world that regenerate stripped bark. The bark is stripped by hand every 9 years. Harvested cork oaks can live up to 300 years.
No bark is wasted during the cork production process. The harvesting of cork is a sustainable practice, providing jobs and supporting the local economies. Cork oaks store carbon in order to regenerate their bark. A harvested cork oak absorbs up to five times more carbon dioxide than one that is not harvested.
Eco-polyurethane
You may be asking yourself how Eco-Polyurethane is eco-friendly but plastic is not. And the answer is because Eco-Polyurethane does not consist of any chemicals that affect endocrine and hormone systems, and it does not contribute to the PH change in soil or water. In other words, it has no negative impact on the environment. It does not leak and contaminate into water nor does it corrode healthy soil. Eco-Polyurethane degrades in normal landfill condition in less than 10 years and the only bi-products it releases are non-toxic elements.
Eco-Polyurethane is highly moisture absorbent and body-friendly. It gives the unrivalled grip to our PRO Yoga mat series and is often referred to as vegan leather.
Organic cotton
Organic cotton is grown with methods that have less impact on our environment. The main benefit of organic cotton is that the crops are not treated with pesticides, insecticides and herbicides. Another important advantage of organic agriculture is the use of growing systems that maintain soil fertility while using far less water.
